Tamil Nadu Electricity Board – TNEB Pension

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board TNEB, is a power generation and distribution company owned by Government of Tamil Nadu. It was created as a regulated monopoly under section 131 of the Electricity Act (2003) as a successor of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. It is the largest State Electricity Board in the country in terms of number of consumers.

TNEB was formed on 1 July 1957 as the Madras State Electricity Board according to the Electricity Supply Act of 1948 as a successor to the erstwhile Electricity Department of the Government of Madras under the authority of the Department of Power. It was responsible for electricity generation, distribution and transmission, and it regulated the electricity supply in the state. Later it was renamed Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

In October 2008, the Government of Tamil Nadu decided to divide TNEB into two subsidiaries. On 1 November 2010, TNEB Limited became a holding company with two subsidiaries, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), responsible for power generation, and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO), responsible for power transmission.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Pension Family Protection

The Pension or Family Pension, including enhanced family pension, relating to employees who retired or died while in service before 01/01/2016 shall, in the first instance, be revised in the following manner:

The existing pension, family pension, enhanced family pension as on 31/12/2015, including the commuted portion but excluding additional pension applicable to pensioners, family pensioners of age 80 years and more, shall be multiplied by a factor of 2.57 and rounded off to the next higher ten rupees to arrive at the revised pension, family pension, enhanced family pension.

The ceiling limit for pensions, family pension and enhanced family pension shall be revised from Rs. 38,500 to Rs. 1,12,500 (50% of maximum pay in Pay Matrix of Rs.2,25,000), from Rs. 23,100 to Rs. 67,500/- (30% of maximum pay in Pay Matrix of Rs.2,25,000) and Rs. 38,500 to Rs. 1,12,500 respectively.

Therefore, if the revised pension, family pension or enhanced family pension worked out as detailed above which exceeds the applicable ceiling limit, it shall be restricted to Rs. 1,12,500, Rs. 67,500 and Rs.1,12,500 respectively.

The minimum revised pension, family pension or enhanced family pension shall be Rs. 7,850 per month. Therefore, if the revised pension, family pension or enhanced family pension worked out as detailed above and is less than Rs. 7,850 per month, it shall be stepped up to Rs. 7,850.
